- Always check the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Travel Advice before
travelling.
- Ensure you have adequate and appropriate medical and travel insurance.
- You must have a valid visa for entry into the country.
- You must have a valid vaccination certificate against Yellow Fever.
- Seek medical advice on the best way to reduce the risk of catching
Malaria.
- Leave a copy of your passport and travel plans with someone reliable
in the UK.
- Enter next of kin details into the back of your passport.
- Land borders with some neighbouring countries can be closed to
non-residents.
- There is no British diplomatic mission in the country – the nearest
one is in Cameroon. Ensure you have the contact details. In an emergency,
consular help can be provided by the Honorary Consul in N’djamena,
telephone + 235 52 39 70/52 01 72.
- Do not travel outside the main towns during the hours of darkness.
- Do not carry drugs; prison conditions are harsh.
