Mexico
- Be alert for pickpockets and thieves, particularly in bus stations,
airports and on the Mexico City Metro.
- Keep your belongings with you or in a safe place.
- Only use taxis from authorised taxi ranks (Sitios). Do not hail
passing taxis, particularly in Mexico City.
- Dress down, and avoid wearing jewellery.
- Be particularly alert when withdrawing cash from cashpoints.
- Check the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Travel Advice.
- Carry a photocopy of your passport with you, separate from the
original.
- Leave a photocopy of your passport and itinerary with a contact in the
UK.
- Enter next of kin details into the back of your passport.
- Do not reveal personal telephone numbers in UK to strangers conducting
surveys.
- Do not carry drugs, the penalties can be severe.
- US dollar travellers' cheques and notes are more easily exchanged
throughout Mexico than sterling equivalents.
