- Local Medical facilities are fairly basic, especially outside of
Honiara. Medical insurance should cover the cost of evacuation by air to
Australia.
- Divers are warned that there are no decompression facilities in the
Solomon Islands.
- Check the latest Foreign and Commonwealth Office Travel Advice before
travelling.
- Enter next of kin details into the back of your passport.
- Penalties for drug smuggling are severe.
- Very few establishments accept credit cards. You should bring
travellers' cheques to cover your expenditure.
- Respect local customs. Swearing is a much greater offence in the
Solomons than in many other countries.
- Burglary is very common. Keep your valuables safe, and carry a
photocopy of your passport.
- Malaria is rife. Ensure that you begin taking your anti-malaria pills
before arriving.
- Whilst UK visitors do not require a visa, you MUST have an onward or
return ticket. Failure to do so will lead to the airline refusing to carry
you to the Solomons.
- Check with local people about where it is safe to swim. Some areas
have large numbers of crocodiles.
